StarMaker

Roger Zelazny is one of my favorite science fiction writers. He has gone and left us and I miss his presence in the world. This image and the next are respectfully dedicated to his memory.

Robert A. Heinlein wrote good stories for juveniles. I started reading those books when I was twelve and happened on Red Planet in the school library. It was great adventure! I was fortunate that someone in town loved science fiction and kept the school library supplied, and that my next book was Have Spacesuit, Will Travel. I managed to devour the collection in a matter of just a few weeks and then I discovered that the local (only) bookstore in town had a rack of paperbacks. The money I earned recycling soda bottles and picking up pecans in the fall (we lived right in the middle of a pecan orchard) suddenly had a burning use besides soft drinks, snacks, balloons and...yes...even movies.

From Heinlein and Asimov, I developed a stark view of the universe. Cold, factual, beautiful, deadly.
